What Fairy Pokémon are weak to, what they resist and how to beat them.

Fairy type weakness is two types: Poison and Steel. Fairy was added in Pokémon X and Y to rein in Dragon types: Fairy Pokémon are immune to Dragon moves and resist Fighting, Bug and Dark. Fairy moves hit Fighting, Dragon and Dark for double damage.

Best counters to Fairy

The best answer to a Fairy Pokémon is something that hits it hard and shrugs off its attacks. These types do both:

  • Poisonhits Fairy for 2×, takes ½× from Fairy moves.
  • Steelhits Fairy for 2×, takes ½× from Fairy moves.

For example: Venusaur, Beedrill, Alolan Sandslash and Alolan Dugtrio.

Fairy dual types

A second type changes everything. These Fairy pairings have the fewest weaknesses:

  • Fairy / Ghost: weak to Ghost and Steel; immune to Normal, Fighting and Dragon. Example: Mimikyu.

  • Fairy / Steel: weak to Fire and Ground; immune to Poison and Dragon. Example: Mawile.

  • Fairy / Normal: weak to Poison and Steel; immune to Ghost and Dragon. Example: Wigglytuff.

  • Fairy / Electric: weak to Poison and Ground; immune to Dragon. Example: Dedenne.

Tip

Steel types resist Fairy moves and hit Fairy for double damage, so every Fairy type wants a Fire or Ground partner. Fairy / Steel is one of the best type pairs in the game: weak only to Fire and Ground, with nine resistances and two immunities.
