Ghost Type Weakness

What Ghost Pokémon are weak to, what they resist and how to beat them.

Ghost type weakness is just two types: Ghost and Dark. Ghost Pokémon are immune to Normal and Fighting moves, two of the most common attack types, and they resist Poison and Bug. Ghost moves hit Ghost and Psychic for double damage, and only Dark resists them.

Best counters to Ghost

The best answer to a Ghost Pokémon is something that hits it hard and shrugs off its attacks. These types do both:

Darkhits Ghost for 2×, takes ½× from Ghost moves.

Ghost also hits Ghost for double damage but doesn't resist it, so use it to attack first.

Ghost dual types

A second type changes everything. These Ghost pairings have the fewest weaknesses:

Ghost / Normal: weak to Dark; immune to Normal, Fighting and Ghost. Example: Hisuian Zoroark.
Ghost / Dark: weak to Fairy; immune to Normal, Fighting and Psychic. Example: Sableye.
Ghost / Fairy: weak to Ghost and Steel; immune to Normal, Fighting and Dragon. Example: Mimikyu.
Ghost / Electric: weak to Ground, Ghost and Dark; immune to Normal and Fighting. Example: Rotom.

Tip

Ghost / Dark (Sableye, Spiritomb) has three immunities (Normal, Fighting, Psychic) and a single weakness: Fairy. Ghost moves are the safest attack type in the game, resisted only by Dark and ignored only by Normal.
