Normal Type Weakness
What Normal Pokémon are weak to, what they resist and how to beat them.
Normal type weakness is the shortest list in the game: Fighting, and that's it. Normal Pokémon resist nothing, but they are immune to Ghost moves. Normal attacks hit nothing for double damage, so Normal Pokémon rely on strong neutral moves and big stats.
Normal weaknesses
Normal Pokémon take double damage from 1 type:
Just one weakness. That makes Normal easy to protect.
Normal resistances
Normal doesn't resist anything. It takes normal damage from every type it isn't weak to.
Normal immunities
Normal Pokémon take no damage from:
What Normal moves are good against
They do half damage to Rock and Steel, and nothing to Ghost.
Best counters to Normal
Fighting hits Normal for double damage but doesn't resist it, so use it to attack first.
Normal dual types
A second type changes everything. These Normal pairings have the fewest weaknesses:
Normal / Ghost: weak to Dark; immune to Normal, Fighting and Ghost. Example: Hisuian Zoroark.
Normal / Fairy: weak to Poison and Steel; immune to Ghost and Dragon. Example: Wigglytuff.
Normal / Poison: weak to Ground and Psychic; immune to Ghost. Example: Grafaiai.
Normal / Electric: weak to Fighting and Ground; immune to Ghost. Example: Heliolisk.
Check any pair yourself on the type chart.
Tip
Normal / Flying (Staraptor, Pidgeot) is immune to both Ghost and Ground and no longer fears Fighting, because Flying resists it. The trade: it becomes weak to Electric, Ice and Rock.
